June brings multiple transits and begins with delicate sandhi planets. Mars finally moves out of debilitation into Leo. Mercury transits to his own sign of Gemini and Rahu and Ketu continue to navigate the edge of their new signs Aquarius and Leo. Multiple sandhi planets are in the gaps between signs.
A sense of limbo can be related to sandhi planets. Sandhi is the gap; the in between space. The netherworld between signs if you will. Most schools of Vedic astrology consider this placement to be weak, to lack strength and clarity. Sandhi planets, who are just entering a sign or just leaving a sign can lack clarity, purpose and focus. Sandhi planets are indeed in limbo. (You can check for this in your own chart by looking for planets that are less then 2 degrees or over 28 degrees).
It’s true, sandhi planets lack the grounding and stability that a planet who is clearly situated within a sign may offer. It is as though the planet hasn’t fully decided if it is in the house that it lives in. It is on its way in or out, but hasn’t decided which one it will be. Its bags are still packed, boxes are still full, and it may not know if it’s here or there. It’s a traveler. It’s in limbo.
This sense of neither here nor there, however, can offer some profound insights and awareness. Nothing is all good nor all bad, and this is quite true with sandhi planets. The gap offers a connection to the mystical realms, the nether realms, and can offer great depth and awareness with what feels untouchable most of the time.
Planets that are sandhi offer potential, possibility, unique insights and depth as a result of their “otherworldly” connections. These are flexible planets and of course that can show up as versatility in a person as well. We can let this lack of grounding hinder us or give us great awareness. That is a choice. I like to remind my clients that what may appear to be a “negative”, is in fact a great gift of some sort just waiting to be discovered. If there’s any part of a chart that gives this type of indication so clearly, I think it is sandhi planets.
As June begins notice the feeling of being unstable, uncertain, and unclear. Rahu, Ketu, Venus, Mercury, and Mars all transit sandhi degrees as the month gets started. Fresh starts and new beginnings are here. Go slow, stay in your body, and stay open to possibility.
An interesting conjunction of Ketu and Mars begins on June 6th once Mars enters Leo. This is a fiery, combustible, even explosive combination. Sudden changes with the masculine, ego, father, and power take place in the coming months. This can be a dangerous combination with unpredictable results. Digestion, solar plexus, and upper gut are extra sensitive. Expect imbalances with pitta, agni and inner fire. Avoid spicy foods, ulcers, and be careful of food poisoning. Watch for outbursts of anger, aggression, and violence. Although the tendency is to go fast and act quickly, remember to pause, slow down, and be extra mindful of your action steps through the end of July.
Full Moon occurs just as June 11th begins. Moon is debilitated in Jyeshtha nakshatra at the time of the full Moon.
Indra is the king of the devas, or sattvic god qualities within you. He rules Jyeshtha nakshatra. His weapon is a thunderbolt and he rules over all weather that involves water and rain. Essentially, Indra is prana, life force energy. To control your prana, is to control your life. This also supports sensory control and becoming your own master of body, emotions, and mind. Indra can give you the power to control your body, your life, and your life force. He wants you to have control over your self and your life and he can go about that in harsh ways.
Indra and this portion of the sky supports thorough investigation through knowledge and wisdom. He does things fully and with passion. There is no half way with him. Dive in completely or don’t bother at all. He does everything with devotion and selfless service. Offer your efforts to the highest good, to dharma.
Meditation, health and wellness routines, eating green foods, as well as spiritual alignment are all supported through Jyeshtha. This constellation can be very serious as well as sharp and dreadful. It cuts, clears and destroys in dramatic ways. This is a reminder to move into right relationship with your spiritual path and purpose. Adharma won’t be tolerated by Indra and he will make that known with forcefulness. Pay attention to what is not in alignment with your dharmic path. Clear the mind of excess clutter, align with the wisdom of Nature, refocus your attention and intention on what truly matters. Listen to the call of your Spirit.
Where are you distracted or misaligned? Where are you misusing your life force energy? How can you re-prioritize and adjust your routine, spiritual practices, and your dharmic focus?
Summer Solstice arrives on June 20th at 20:41 MT marking the longest day of light for the Northern Hemisphere.
“In the Northern Hemisphere, the June solstice (aka summer solstice) occurs when the Sun reaches its highest and northernmost points in the sky. It marks the start of summer in the northern half of the globe. (In contrast, the June solstice in the Southern Hemisphere is when the Sun is at its lowest point in the sky, marking the start of winter.)
Solstice comes from the Latin words sol (“sun”) and sistere (“to stand still”). Due to Earth’s tilted axis, the Sun doesn’t rise and set at the same locations on the horizon each morning and evening; its rise and set positions move northward or southward in the sky as Earth travels around the Sun through the year. Also, the Sun’s track in the sky becomes higher or lower throughout the year. The June solstice is significant because the Sun reaches its northernmost point in the sky at this time, at which point the Sun’s path does not change for a brief period of time.
After the solstice, the Sun appears to reverse course and head back in the opposite direction. The motion referred to here is the apparent path of the Sun when one views its position in the sky at the same time each day, for example, at local noon. Over the year, its path forms a sort of flattened figure eight, called an analemma. Of course, the Sun itself is not moving (unless you consider its orbit around the Milky Way galaxy); instead, this change in position in the sky that we on Earth notice is caused by the tilt of Earth’s axis as it orbits the Sun, as well as Earth’s elliptical, rather than circular, orbit.” – Farmer’s Almanac
New Moon in Gemini and Ardra Nakshatra on June 25th at 04:32 AM MT
Big energy intensifies as the new Moon arrives. Jupiter moves to Ardra nakshatra on June 13th. Sun and Jupiter will be in exact degrees at the time of the new Moon, creating a tight combustion. The new Moon in Ardra increases the qualities of this constellation as well as the emotional impact.
Combustion of Jupiter and Sun overheats the guru. Teachers, guides, counselors and therapists will feel the excess heat. Fathers and your male partners may be extra challenged, overheated, and exhausted with this combustion. This is a challenging time in general for men with the current transits impacting Sun qualities very directly. Men and the masculine are feeling the heat, pressure, anger and grief in specific ways. Consider this a time of purification. What is clearing and releasing in your body and life? Where do you need to strengthen your inner power and dharmic path? Focus on integrity and right action.
Mars and Ketu continue their conjunction, heat, and explosive qualities through the end of July. There is an intensification of fire, power, and pitta taking place in body and nature. Watch for fire, explosions, anger, and excess light.
The new Moon arrives on June 25th in the early hours. Ardra nakshatra is ruled by the storm god, Rudra. He creates strong, stormy energy, big emotions, and inner and outer upheaval. Rudra shows you where there is undigested grief disguised as anger and rage. Notice your emotions and be willing to lean closer. Why do you feel angry? What do your emotions tell you about your deeper needs? What do your challenging emotions help you identify? What are they asking for?
Your willingness to honor your big emotions will support their release. Stay present and willing to be with your challenging parts. There is something trying to push through and come to the surface. Are you listening? What needs to change? Your emotional body waves are asking for more nourishment. Be willing to support the release so that you have space for more of what you truly want and need.
Though Ardra nakshatra can offer immense pain and suffering, the relationship with grief must be acknowledged here. Suffering intensifies when we resist the darkness, the struggles, the pain and losses we experience. The intensity of Ardra nakshatra (and Rudra) occurs when the powerful emotional body within is ignored, suppressed, avoided or is disconnected.
The violent inner storms increase when the waves are not attended to regularly, when they are not honored or acknowledged as normal, valid and valuable parts of the human experience. Ardra nakshatra invites (or forces) you to look at your challenging emotions and your grief, so that it can be released and cleared. On the other side of this grief is space to feel and create something new that is equally as powerful.
The waxing cycle ahead is a request to lean closer to your own darkness and shadow. Your grief, losses and struggles are a call for help, a beckoning from your emotional body wisdom. Do you lean closer or do you keep resisting the pain?
