Full Moon in Leo and Purvaphalguni Nakshatra on March 3rd at 04:37 MT + Lunar Eclipse

March begins with five planets conjunct in Aquarius. Venus, retrograde Mercury, Rahu, Mars, and Sun bring overwhelm, challenges, and pressure. A full Moon and lunar eclipse on the 2nd kick off another challenging month of transits. Emotions are vulnerable and will intensify as a result. This is yet another challenging month of transits that will create obstructions, delays, aggression, overwhelm and fear. Simplify everything you can. Slow down and listen to your body. Get extra rest. Focus on what you do have control over and take consistent steps. Remember your true purpose and stay connected to your true power which is dharma. This is your only job.

The bright spot of this month is the Vedic fertility celebration of Holi and the sacred nine days and night of Navaratri. Turn toward your own creativity and inner light. You are powerful and your gifts matter.

Venus exalts in Pisces on the 1st, but is conjunct Saturn which will diminish the effects. Mid month, Sun moves to Pisces, conjunct Saturn. This combustion creates frustrations, delays, increased pressure, and physical body challenges. The Sun does not enjoy the work and effort Saturn requires. This is a challenging time for leaders, light, the soul, and your physical strength. Slow down and listen to your body wisdom.

Jupiter goes direct on March 10th, supporting forward momentum for knowledge, teachers, guides, and those that share wisdom. Creativity gets some much needed movement. Move towards your goals and desires now.

Mars conjunct Rahu intensifies the challenges, delays, heat, and volatility moving into April. The Mercury and Mars conjunction also creates tension with action vs. thinking. Confusion intensifies. Doubts increase. Expect uncertainty, but take action anyway.

Mercury, Mars, Sun, Moon, and Venus will all take turns being sandwiched in between Rahu and Saturn. This increases pressure, suffering, delays, challenges, and an inability to see clearly. Don’t make important decisions if possible during this process. Mercury is also retrograde and combust the Sun this month, asking for clean up with money, mind, and communication. The nervous system and mental body are over-heated and overwhelmed. This creates extra sensitive and requires slowing down, more green foods, spending time in nature, and meditation.

Kala sarpa yoga begins March 13th- where all planets will be hemmed in by Rahu and Ketu. This intensifies the waves being felt by the transits. March is particularly delicate with planetary conjunctions, combustions, the closure of the eclipse cycle, kala sarpa yoga and the malefic squeeze effect of Rahu and Saturn.

The full Moon in Leo and Purvaphalguni Nakshatra closes the two week eclipse cycle with a lunar eclipse.

This Full Moon coincides with the Vedic fertility festival of Holi, enlivening vitality, life force energy and creativity. Holi is a Vedic fertility celebration which sparks immense creative life force energy. Potential, possibility and creative power are enlivening. Step into your Divine Feminine power! Ask your ancestors to guide you with the process of creating and manifesting your desires.

No matter the hemisphere you are in, both spring and fall are considered “sandhi” times of year- or in between seasons. These are sacred times, when the veil is thin and sensitivity is heightened. From an Ayurvedic perspective, we attend to necessary physical rituals that help the body cleanse and purify. Holi comes at this sacred junction and is a time to “plant seeds” so to speak. It is a celebration of fertility, abundance and the awakening of Shakti within Nature. The full enlivening of the Divine Feminine, is celebrated during Vasant Navaratri- the nine days of Mother Divine- which begins on March 18th this year. Use Holi to plant your seeds of desire. Honor the sense of spring and possibility, hope and awakening.

The Full Moon in Leo and Purvaphalguni increases creativity and sensuality in the cycle ahead. There is strong desire, empowerment and attention to relationships surfacing. Clear away emotional debris and make space for gains and advancements in your heart. Allow for leisure, increased pleasure, nourishment and ease, but be mindful of overindulgence. Cravings are rooted in the shadow.

What darkness is not being attended to with honesty and courage? Where can you let go and find more surrender? Where are you pushing and forcing, creating imbalance and incongruence?

Purvaphalguni nakshatra is ruled by Bhaga, the god of pleasure, comforts, resources and commodities. He gives excess, abundance and juiciness. Sensuality and sexuality come naturally as a result of his gifts and influence. Manifestation is enlivened with his life force energy. This constellation is like the nectar that bees flock to, expressing a spring-like quality with plenty of blossoming and fruiting. The sap is flowing, the bees are buzzing and the flowers are blooming! Can you feel it? Beauty comes alive within this portion of the sky and potential is dawning. Relationships are energized and strengthened with the influences of this constellation. Plant your seeds of desire, expand your dreams and focus on the bigger picture.

Maybe it’s time to ask for what you really want and need? Where are you receiving less than what you deserve? What is keeping you from rising and growing? Where are you resisting your power and greater purpose?

This cycle reminds you: Don’t settle for less than the best. Ask Nature to support your clarity and vision. Think bigger and be clear about your desires. Get focused and expand your reach. Use creative resources to awaken your life force energy. Make art! Dance and sing! Celebrate yourself! Meet new people, start new relationships, enliven the ones you already have. Allow more sensuality and sexuality into your life and let your life force energy flow more fully. Spend time receiving and remember your gratitude. Where do you feel abundant already? Where do you need more? Remember that getting the support you need and being able to receive, will strengthen your results. We don’t succeed alone- ever! Gather who and what you need for growth.

Eclipses intensify your shadow. This full Moon and lunar eclipse closes the two week eclipse cycle. Emotions tend to intensify during eclipses and shadows are much stronger. Lunar eclipses bring emotional body work to the surface as well as undigested grief. You may feel less clear and focused so don’t make sudden decisions. Challenges often intensify so we can see them more clearly and make the necessary changes that will support new growth. This can be a time of immense inner transformation if used properly.

From a Vedic perspective, it is not advised to be outside during an eclipse or to look directly at the eclipse taking place. Wear a head covering if you have to be outside so you don’t absorb the shadow. Ideally, this is a time for spiritual practices such as meditation, chanting and fasting. Set intentions and honor the sensitivity of this time. It is also widely recognized that during and between eclipses, starting new endeavors will not bring positive results. No new projects, relationships or activities should start in the eclipse portal. Notice what needs are arriving, then take action after the eclipse portal closes. Best to lay low, attend to spiritual pursuits, get extra rest and work with your inner shadow very consciously during this cycle.

New Moon in Pisces and Uttarabhadrapada nakshatra on March 18th at 19:24 Mountain Time

At the time of the new Moon, retrograde Mercury, Rahu, and Mars are conjunct in Aquarius. The mind is still sensitive, action steps continue to feel frustrating, confusion and uncertainty continues. Sun, Moon, Saturn, and exalted Venus conjunct in Pisces, creating more delays, overwhelm, and physical body challenges. Slow and steady wins the race. Rest more, simplify everything you can, and make your body the priority.

Chaitra Navratri and Spring Equinox arrive with this new Moon.

Moon is in sidereal Pisces and the constellation of Uttarabhadrapada at the time of Amavasya, new Moon. There is movement, increased fluidity, and a desire for balance arriving with this Moon.

Equinox expresses the equilibrium taking place in the environment- when days and nights become nearly equal in length. The darkness and the light within us and around us find some harmony, integration and balance. With Venus currently transiting exaltation, conjunct Saturn, this is a powerful theme.

Pisces also seeks balance, however it is through movement and release. Stagnation causes certain death. The turning of the wheel and cycle of life is provoked at these seasonal junction points. Whether you are in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere, the shift is arriving- causing the release and sparking an opening of the new.

Pisces correlates to the 12th house of the zodiac- which expresses themes around loss, endings, release and letting go. The wisdom of the 12th house is expressed through the ancestors, reclusive tendencies and all matters of the spiritual realms. It is a junction point between endings and beginnings, openings and closings, spirit and material worlds. There is nothing mundane about this portion of the sky. Jupiter, the guru, rules Pisces and reminds us of the knowledge possible through this sign. As a water sign, it requests movement, fluidity, purification and attention to the emotional body.

This new Moon in Uttarabhadrapada takes you into a deep dive- below the surface understanding of life and into the depths of your inner realms. The deity of this constellation is Ahirbudhnya who rules unseen, hidden parts of our awareness. With the help of Ahirbudhnya, the unconscious parts of ourselves will rise to the surface, becoming conscious. The serpent of the depths seeks spiritual awakening, transformation and healing, and does so by asking us to look at our shadows.

As a Naga, Ahirbudhnya has spiritual serpent energy that moves darkness to the light, stirring and awakening the unseen, making it dissolve into conscious awareness. In many ways this is a reflection of the endless cycle of transcendence and transformation. Darkness to light, pulling from our depths, and awakening insights and awareness; the new awareness provoking change and beginnings.

Though we touch the surface, the intention of this constellation is to go back into the depths again and again. Coming up for air doesn’t last long. It is the desire for expansion and growth that drives the movement and the return to the depths of our inner ocean. Ahirbudhnya supports this journey.

This waxing cycle comes with a request to journey into your inner terrain and pull up pearls of wisdom. This requires your willingness to look deep within and uncover the hidden, dark parts of yourself. An invitation to intensify your healing process and gather new guidance is arriving. There may be confusion and shadow keeping you from seeing clearly, but strive for clarity and insight anyway. Balance, integration and harmony are bursting forth, but not without required release and endings.

Are you consciously allowing the letting go to take place? What veils of illusion are clouding your vision? What needs to be stripped away in order for you to see more clearly? Where are you resisting or gripping, instead of letting go?

Relationships and the feminine are particularly potent resources for this waning cycle. Are you listening to your inner Divine Feminine? Are you allowing her wisdom to support your balance? She is a requirement for your wholeness and inner balance. Let Her speak to you.

The Vedic celebration of Navaratri arrives with the new Moon on March 18th. This is a powerful turning point in the Vedic Calendar when the Divine Feminine transforms and awakens. It is through her powerful dance that the seasonal shifts take place. We are embarking on the magical shift between seen and unseen, straddling the material and spiritual realms. This is a gap, a portal, that invites in depth, wisdom and powerful inner wisdom. Don’t go back to sleep.

The Navaratri celebration is an expression of what is taking place within Nature, through the Laws that govern Nature, marking an important transition within us and around us. Align with Nature and Her powerful energy of change and transformation during Navaratri. Ritualize your connections with Nature- in order to land more closely to your own inner wisdom, to Her wisdom. Strengthen your connection to self and Spirit.

Navaratri is a poignant time in the Vedic Calendar. This ancient calendar is one that is dedicated to Nature and her cycles and rhythms, the planets, and most importantly the Moon. In the Vedic Calendar, time is connected to what Nature and the cosmos are doing, and these elements are intimately related. Navaratri occurs twice a year- in the “gap” seasons of spring and fall. These times are considered sandhi times- delicate times that feel like you are neither here, nor there. We might call it the netherworld. This time, though delicate, is considered sacred so use this time wisely.
