Full Moon in Aquarius and Purvabhadrapada Nakshatra + Penumbral Lunar Eclipse September 7th at 12:08 PM MT

September is a month of cosmic events, transformations, changes and big energy shifts. The sacred Vedic celebrations of Pitru Paksha and Navaratri occur. This month also brings two eclipses and intense planetary conjunctions. Expect change and release from the inside out.

Pitru Paksha begins with the full Moon on the 7th. This is a powerful 15 day lunar cycle that honors the ancestors. Offer blessings of food at your ancestor altar. Nourishing the ancestors, and your entire lineage, is of the utmost importance in this cycle. Your ancestors gift you with your dharmic duty and thanking them for their guidance and blessings at this time is extremely potent.

Mercury, Sun and Ketu form a powerful conjunction in Leo stacking up in Purvaphalguni nakshatra. Purvaphalguni nakshatra is ruled by Bhaga, the god of pleasure, comforts and commodities. He gives excess, abundance and juiciness. Sensuality and sexuality come naturally as a result of his gifts and influence. Manifestation is enlivened with his life force energy. This constellation is like the nectar that bees flock to, expressing a spring-like quality with plenty of blossoming and fruiting. The sap is flowing, the bees are buzzing and the flowers are blooming! Can you feel this harvest? Beauty comes alive within this portion of the sky and potential is dawning. Relationships are energized and strengthened with the influences of this constellation. Plant your seeds of desire, expand your dreams and focus on the bigger picture. Expect restructuring and changes with your power, mind, and relationships. Focus on creativity and express your creative power.

The September full Moon arrives with a penumbral lunar eclipse on the 7th while Moon is transiting Purvabhadra nakshatra. As the month begins, a potent full Moon arrives, opening a two week eclipse cycle.

PurvaBhadra is a constellation of integration, balance and harmonizing polarities. The ruling deity is Ajaikapada, a form of Shiva, Lord of the Dance. There is skillfulness with making money and doing challenging work in this portion of the sky. It is said that this constellation can cure the impossible. The symbol of this lunar constellation is a funeral cot, which speaks to themes of transformation, death and purification- all that is beyond the material plane of existence. Bhadra means auspicious in Sanskrit, while pada is foot. There is an ability to walk in two worlds- material and spiritual- through this constellation.

These themes activate in the coming waning cycle. As the waning Moon turns your focus inward, spirit will support your inner awareness more fully. This cycle will also support healing and transformation through the emotional body landscape- for those who are willing to lean in closer to their grief, sadness and loss. Let the light enter your heart. Eclipse cycles are notorious for bringing shadow to the light. Let yourself be cracked open.

In the coming days, it may feel like you have a foot in two worlds at times, but this is an essential part of your integration process. Connect with your different needs and honor your two halves. Work closely with balancing masculine and feminine energies as well as inner and outer realms. Use the new cycle to move closer to your polarities, not away from them. As you lean in closer, you can begin to heal and integrate opposing energies within. This is an important part of the healing wisdom of the eclipse portal.

Shiva asks you to simplify and do tapas in order for purification. Something must be released and actions and behaviors need to be simplified. Through this process of releasing, simplifying and purifying, clarity, wisdom and prosperity emerges. The power of Rudra is offered under this constellation, which can be channeled into auspicious activities and purposes with positive results. The symbol of this constellation is the front half of a funeral cot, inviting in release and letting go. This cycle prepares you for something new. Be prepared to let go, in order for the new to have space. A deep level of purification is taking place in the days ahead. Support this process and allow new resources to support you.

There is much clearing and release happening. This waning eclipse cycle supports clearing and letting go of the old. Parts of you that have been stuck will require your conscious uprooting. This may mean you have to retrace some old terrain in order to support the clearing. Dive deeply and honor depths and unconscious realms. Awakening to your inner conflicts and polarities are key in this process. Gains come with your clearing and release process. You must make room for something new. This process may require diving into very old, painful territory and cleaning up relationship grief. Seek integration, harmony and balance between self and others. Between inner and outer. Between your darkness and light.

What mirrors are arriving to help you attend to the past and release it? What relationships need to be released once and for all? What integration and balance is needed in order for deeper grounding?

In the cycle ahead, attend to your grounding, inner and outer stability as well as your feet. Connect with the earth and find ways to deepen your roots. Find your ground and activate your inner intelligence. Pay attention to your feet and what they tell you about your grounding cord. Stay rooted.

The penumbral lunar eclipse on the 7th will be visible in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, West in North America, East in South America, Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Arctic, Antarctica. The eclipse begins on the 7th at 09:28 AM Mountain Time. The maximum eclipse will be at 12:11 PM Mountain Time. The Eclipse will end at 02:55 PM Mountain Time.

A reminder that this begins a two week cycle which is not good for starting new projects. The eclipse portal will close on September 21st with a solar eclipse and the beginning of Maha Navaratri. Emotions tend to intensify during eclipses and shadows are much stronger. You may feel less clear and focused- so don’t make sudden decisions. Challenges often intensify so we can see them more clearly and make the necessary changes that will support new growth. This can be a time of immense inner transformation if used properly. Lunar eclipses activate emotions, feelings, and the divine feminine.

From a Vedic perspective, it is not advised to be outside during an eclipse or to look directly at the eclipse taking place. Wear a head covering if you have to be outside so you don’t absorb the shadow. Ideally, this is a time for spiritual practices such as meditation, chanting and fasting. Set intentions and honor the sensitivity of this time. It is also widely recognized that during and between eclipses, starting new endeavors will not bring positive results. No new projects, relationships or activities should start in the eclipse portal- unless they are supportive for your spiritual progress. Notice what needs are arriving, then take action after the eclipse portal closes. Best to lay low, attend to spiritual pursuits, get extra rest and work with your inner shadow very consciously during this cycle.

Use the two week Eclipse cycle for spiritual practices, rest, retreat and your dharmic path. Set intentions for the coming weeks and honor your self care. Listen to your emotional body wisdom and confront your inner shadows. Make necessary changes in your actions and choices. Release negative thought patterns, behaviors and inner dialogue that is keeping you stuck in patterns and cycles of lack and adharma. Clear, release and let go so that you have even more space for your deepest nourishment.

New Moon in Virgo and Uttaraphalguni Nakshatra on September 21st at 14:08 Mountain Time + Partial Solar Eclipse

The conjunction of planets in Leo shifts to Virgo, creating a focus on healing mind, body and emotions. Sun, Mercury and Moon collide at the time of the New Moon. Mercury exalts in Virgo this month, causing the mental body to strengthen. Mercury is combust the Sun heating up mind and nervous system. Meditation, eating green food, staying close to Nature, and calming the nervous system become extra important in this cycle. Exalted Mercury occurs once a year. This is a powerful time of year for commerce, business, money, and mental clarity.

Mars moves to Libra, asking for balance, integration, and healing with relationships, pelvis and womb. Focus on creativity, co-creation, and rebalance. Less is more. Slow down so you can integrate. Harmonize opposing forces and get decisive. Clarity is essential so you can move forward.

Ketu and Venus are conjunct in Leo. Restructuring relationships as well as sudden changes with partnerships should be expected. Release what is not yours to carry. Your ancestors are asking you to transform an old lineage pattern. Let it go. Create something new and ask for more. Where are you limiting yourself?

The new Moon in Uttaraphalguni arrives on the 21st, closing the two week eclipse portal. Pitru Paksha ends, while Maha Navaratri begins. This is a very powerful and sacred junction point. Turn inward and listen carefully. Nature is offering her wisdom and potent messages. She is supporting your transformation and healing. Use the process of Navaratri for pause and integration.

Just as the two week celebration of the ancestors ends, Maha Navaratri begins. For those of us who honor the powerful Vedic Calendar (a calendar rooted in Natural Law) this is an incredibly sacred time. September 21st is the most important day of Pitru Paksha because the ancestors are wide awake and ready to connect with you. Remember that feeding your ancestors does not end when Pitru Paksha ends. This is an essential part of your dharmic path and spiritual practice.

Amavasya, or the new Moon, is a seed planting time- ripe with potential and possibility. Release and letting go must take place in order for you to plant your seeds in the cycle to come. What is it that you are letting go of- in preparation for the new, the ripening and harvest to come?

Uttaraphalguni is a constellation that correlates to the ancestors. It gives powerful, creative life force energy and resources that support and sustain lineage. Aryaman rules this portion of the sky, offering resources like love, marriage, family, children, and that which perpetuates the ancestral line. Life force energy is enlivened here, which enlivens ones desires and helps them arrive into manifest form. What seeds are you planting right now?

The Phalguni constellations are notorious for ripeness, fertility and giving the fruits of your efforts; they are symbolized by a bed- a place of creation, rest, rejuvenation and pleasure. These stars correlate to love, sexuality, sensuality and relationships. Purva phalguni connects more to the lower half of the body, while Uttara phalguni correlates to the upper half of the body as well as the future and lasting results. Fruitful outcomes occur through the Phalguni constellations. It is a powerful time to create contracts that you want lasting support and results from.

In the waxing cycle to come, it’s powerful time to gather your harvest for the past season. What are you taking with you? What are you leaving behind? What is still digesting and integrating? What are the new needs showing up? What grief are you still carrying that needs to be released and digested?

Movement, expansion and momentum come in the weeks ahead. Make changes that help you align with new nourishment and growth. It’s time to move forward and be bold with your desires. Make sure your actions, choices, words and desires match your long term expectations. What are you moving towards? What needs to be released in order to make room for the new? Where are you holding grief, clogging the channels and keeping you from deeper receptivity?

Digest, release and integrate grief from the past cycle. This is a cycle of healing and preparation. Don’t move too fast. Slow down and be methodical with your steps- as tempting as it may be to rush. Move towards new nourishment and make room for the new by clearing and releasing the unconscious terrain that keeps you stuck and striving but never arriving. What stories of lack are in your way of abundance and deeper love?

The two week eclipse portal closes with this Uttaraphalguni new Moon. Solar eclipses bring challenges with the masculine, power, and strength. Emotions are bigger than normal, inner waves more extreme, and lunar intelligence at peak levels. This eclipse cycle has brought challenges to the surface for re-evaluation. Your shadows have been intensifying parts of yourself that need greater awareness. It’s time for an upgrade and a change in direction. Are you ready to pivot?

The challenges surfacing are likely not new issues emerging, but rather old parts of yourself that have been ignored. Without intensification they won’t get the attention that is required for transformation and healing. Now that your pain and discomfort has your focused attention, what needs to shift?

Have you been paying attention to your shadow parts? What do you need to shift or change in your approach? What does your pain tell you about your deeper needs?

A partial solar eclipse occurs with this new Moon on September 21st. This eclipse is visible across South in Australia, Pacific, Atlantic, Antarctica. The eclipse begins on the 21st at 11:29 AM Mountain Time. The maximum eclipse occurs at 01:41 PM Mountain Time. The eclipse ends at 03:53 PM Mountain Time.

From a Vedic perspective, it is not advised to be outside during an eclipse or to look directly at the eclipse. No new projects, relationships or activities should start in the eclipse portal. Notice what needs are arriving, then take action after the eclipse portal closes. Best to lay low, attend to spiritual pursuits, get extra rest and work with your inner shadow very consciously during this cycle.

In the days following the eclipse, you will likely notice a release, purging and clearing taking place. Expect some break through or new awareness to emerge. The clouds will part, the veil will lift, and the shadow will lessen. This is an important time to pay attention to needs that are surfacing and refocus. It’s time for a life upgrade! Where are you playing small, or allowing victim behavior to disempower you? Release the lack, uncertainty and resistance to change. What steps can you take to move closer to your dreams, goals and desires?

The Vedic celebration of Maha Navaratri arrives just after the new Moon. On September 22nd, the powerful battle of Ma Durga and the rakshasa (demon) Mahishasura begins, ending with victory day, Vijaya Dashami, on October 2nd. Durga defeats the demon, a reminder to us all that Durga always wins, darkness is always overcome, and dharma always prevails. This is a powerful turning point in the Vedic Calendar when the Divine Feminine awakens, enlivens, transforms and heals.

It is through the powerful dance of the Divine Feminine that the seasonal shifts take place. We are embarking on the magical transformation between seen and unseen, straddling the material and spiritual realms. This is a gap, a portal, that invites in depth, awakening, awareness and powerful inner wisdom. Stay alert and awake to inner and outer changes taking place. Notice conflicts within yourself and your environment. Seek resolution and healing.

The Navaratri celebration is an expression of what is taking place within Nature, through the Laws that govern Nature, marking an important transition within us and around us. Align with Nature and Her powerful energy of change and transformation during Navaratri. Ritualize your connections with Nature- in order to land more closely to your own inner wisdom, to Her wisdom. Strengthen your connection to self and Spirit.

Navaratri is a poignant time in the Vedic Calendar. This ancient calendar is one that is dedicated to Nature and her cycles and rhythms, the planets, and most importantly the Moon. In the Vedic Calendar, time is connected to what Nature and the cosmos are doing, and these elements are intimately related.

Although Navaratri occurs multiple times each year in the “gap” seasons of spring and fall, as well as other important junction points, Maha Navaratri is considered the most significant. These times are considered sandhi times; delicate times that feel like you are neither here, nor there. We might call it the netherworld. This time, though vulnerable, is considered sacred- so use it wisely.

Fall Equinox occurs on September 22nd at 12:19 PM Mountain Time. The autumnal equinox is an astronomical event that marks the start of autumn (or fall). In the Northern Hemisphere, the autumnal equinox occurs in September. During an equinox, the Sun crosses what we call the “celestial equator”—an imaginary extension of Earth’s equator line into space. The equinox occurs precisely when the Sun’s center passes through this line. For those in the Northern Hemisphere, when the Sun crosses the equator going from north to south, this marks the autumnal equinox; when it crosses from south to north, this marks the vernal equinox. In the Southern Hemisphere, it’s the reverse. After the autumnal equinox, days become shorter than nights as the Sun continues to rise later and nightfall arrives earlier. This ends with the winter solstice, after which days start to grow longer once again. The word “equinox” comes from Latin aequus, meaning “equal,” and nox, “night.” On the equinox, day and night are roughly equal in length.” – Farmer’s Almanac
